Hague Park Photo

Deb Beda drove over to Hague Park to look around, and she shared this picture with us. This is the cement post mentioned in the book, the only thing left of the old amusement park.

Thanks, Deb!!!

Also, Patti and I noticed and talked about an article that came out in the Citizen Patriot over the weekend, talking about the flu epidemic of 1918-19 in Jackson. The article contained a photo of one family who happened to be aboard the Hague Park Ship. What is it they say about coincidences........?

Hague Park Flyers

Hello all! Our first meeting of the year, and first at Cuppa, was so much fun! Larry Jacobson, local author, joined us to talk about Hague Park Flyers, his book we read, set here in Jackson. It was such a treat to have Larry there to answer all our questions about how he came up with the plot, how he developed the characters, how long it took him to write the story and how he researched the events and places in Jackson from a hundred years ago. It was also intriguing to hear how his time as a police officer shaped the story and the characters. Larry shared with us a hint about his next novel, too! Stay tuned.... If you want to look up anything else he's done, he uses the name, L. D. Jacobson.

Our current read is An Invisible Thread, by Laura Schroff. We will meet the 2nd Wednesday of February, 2/8, at Cuppa for the discussion, great coffee treats and fun times. I hope you can make it. Our March read is going to be Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs.

If you're a Westwinder, note that we're having a "satellite reboot" tomorrow between services. Hang out after the Cue and check out the other satellites available to you. Also, I've pasted below some information you may be interested in if you enjoy John Voelz's music:

Good Music. Good Community. Good Times.
There are three good opportunities right around the corner to hear Westwinds musicians throughout Jackson.
On Thursday, January 19th, JVo will be playing from 5:30-8:00 at the Ella Sharp Museum.
On Friday, January 20th, We are the Ink Monkey (JVo and Mark) and friends will be playing at Jackson Coffee Co. from 7:00-10:00.
On Saturday, January 21st, We are the Ink Monkey and friends will be at Cuppa Coffee in ART634 playing for the celebration of the grand opening of Essa Arts (new gallery owned and operated by Westwinds' own Sheryl Amburgey) from 7:00-9:00. Wow. Music AND art!
Invite all your friends!
