Unmeasured Strength and Next Month

Hello All! At our gathering last Monday, we talked about Unmeasured Strength, by Lauren Manning. If you haven't read this one yet, I highly recommend it. Lauren's story is one of strength, encouragement and inspiration. She was badly burned in the World Trade Center during the 9/11 attacks; burned as in, charred beyond recognition. Her book is the story of her pain and recovery, physically, emotionally and spiritually, and of the role the community played in helping her along. Thanks to all who came out to Biggby for our last meeting there. We had a great time!

January's meeting will be January 11, 2012 at Cuppa (Art 634), 6:30-8:00pm. All meetings going forward will be at Cuppa on the 2nd Wednesday of every month.

January's meeting will be a special, fun event: local author L. D. Jacobson (Larry) will join us to discuss his book, Hague Park Flyers, which is our current read. If you haven't purchased the book, I can get it for you from Larry for $15, or you can order it from Amazon or Barnes & Noble. It's also available as an ebook for Nook.

The book we chose for February is An Invisible Thread, by Valerie Salembier.

Please note, my phone number has changed. My new number is 517-416-4176. Please make the change in your phones if you have my number saved.

I wish all of you a very blessed, happy, Merry Christmas and a safe and fun New Year celebration.

Meeting Reminder

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow night, Monday, 12/12, Bigby Jackson, 7pm. We will be discussing Unmeasured Strength and catching up on good times.

I will bring Hague Park Flyers, next month's book, for Deb, Melissa, Lisa, Crissie, and Afton. (Crissie, I can't find your last email to me, but I think I remember that you wanted one.) If your name isn't listed here, it means I don't know you want the book. I will see Larry (the author) tomorrow during the day, so there's still time if you'd like me to bring you a copy. The cost is $15, and I'll get it from you when I deliver the book to you. If you're on the list above and can't make it to the meeting, give me a call or send me an email and I can meet you somewhere to get it to you.

Remember, January's meeting will be the one we're changing nights and venue for. January's meeting will be at Cuppa, Art 634, the 2nd Wednesday in January. We'll talk more about this tomorrow night.

Peace...

Hague Park Flyers (reminder for January)

Hello All! Just a reminder: for January's book, we are reading a novel written by a local author, who I happen to know personally. You can purchase his book online at Amazon, but I can get them cheaper from Larry, himself. The cost is $15, and I've copied the portion of my last email below, to describe the book. I would like to get the books from Larry by this Friday. If you want one and can make it to next week's meeting, you can get the book and pay me then. If you want a book and will not be at the meeting, I will still get it for you and make arrangements to get it to you.

***If you haven't already, please let me know by mid-day Thursday if you want me to get a copy of the book from Larry.

  • For January's book, we have an exciting event to look forward to. One of my co-workers is an author. His name is Larry Jacobson (L. D. Jacobson). Larry's 2nd novel is Hague Park Flyers and now for sale on Amazon, indiebound.org, or directly from Larry. The cost is quite a bit cheaper if we buy directly from Larry, which is $15. The story is fiction and set in Jackson. Larry has agreed to come and speak at our January meeting. This is something you don't want to miss! He is an awesome speaker and has a great sense of humor. I can purchase all copies at once from Larry for anyone who wants one, at $15 a piece, and bring them to the December meeting for you. Please reply to this email and let me know if you want a copy or not. Larry will sign all of them, personalized to you, at the meeting. Below is a summary of the story:
    • On the day his daughter was abducted and killed, police officer Joel Chase was having an affair. He blamed God. Now estranged from his family and existing in a cloud of misery, self-loathing and rage, Joel runs down a suspect in a desolate lakeside park on a rainy night. As he takes out his grief and shame and guilt on the suspect, four words drift down from a willow tree above hiim. Four impossible words dancing on the night air in a voice long buried..."Daddy, don't hurt him." Everything that Joel knows about life, about death, about faith and about God is all going to change with those four words. He has asked God to show him why his daughter had to die - he has demanded it. God has had enough. He has had enough of taking the heat for Joel's bad decisions and demands. He has had enough of being second guessed. Joel Chase is about to have his prayers and his questions answered. Let the nightmare begin.

December's meeting is about Unmeasured Strength, by Lauren Manning. We'll be at Biggby Jackson, 7-9 pm, next Monday, 12/12.

I'll still send another reminder email for December's meeting in a few days. Hope you're having a great week! See you soon...
